After weeks of thinking this little boy would never make his entrance, Victor Isaiah Lunderman came into the world in a blaze of fire! He was born on November 24, 2008 at 10:39am weighing 7 lbs, 15 oz., 21 inches.
My contractions started that morning at 6am. Vic was headed off for his morning run and I told him to come back from the gym because I just didn't feel well. My contractions were about 5-7 mins apart at that point. I didn't want to rush to the hospital because I just hate sitting in there, so my plan was to stay home for at least 2 hours. Besides, Sydnee wasn't awake yet, and I just didn't feel like rushing around at 6 am. So we hung out at the house, I put some stuff in a bag, cleaned up the kitchen dishes and burned up about an hour or so. Sydnee woke up about 7:30 and we all got ready to make moves. We got to the maternity ward at about 8 am and the contractions were 3 mins apart. The nurse told us that we had just checked into the LAST room in the hospital! It didn't even have a bed in it! So 10 mins later, the ladies bring me a bed and the nurse comes back to check me out. "Oh, yea, you're at 5 cm." I was so happy to hear that cuz there was NO WAY I was going back home with all of that pain going on. I asked for IV drugs, because epidurals give me the eebie-geebies! The nurse left to get all of my stuff ordered, drugs, IV drip, etc. So in the meantime, I'm breathing and screaming for Jesus through all the contractions. My water broke an hour later. By the time the nurse comes in with the drugs, she checks me and says that I'm at 7 cm and this is my last chance for any drugs. I get the drugs and finally calm down, I'm just whispering Jesus' name at this point :) But, the contractions are still coming back to back and I can hear that Isaiah's heartbeat is REALLY slow. I know that babies can't really breathe through contractions, so I'm secretly worried that he's not getting enough air. The next thing I know lots of people start coming into the room. The doctor comes in and inserts a heartbeat monitor on the baby's head. I'm getting a shot of Lord only knows what, and through it all that little heart beat is staying slow! Finally Dr. A comes over and says, "Look, Cursha, I know this isn't what you wanted, but we need to do an emergency c-section. The contractions are right on top of each other and he's not getting any time to breathe. We've given you two shots to stop the contractions and you're not responding. I think we need to get him out of there." Vic and I said "OK" and signed the consent form. Then we were off to the races! We left Vic in the labor room and they raced us down the hall to an operating room. The doc set up for a c-section in 2 secs. flat and the drug man wasn't ready yet. Dr. A. yelled, "I need you guys to be ready!!!" So, they got it together, told me to take a few deep breaths of some air because I was going to sleep. The next thing I knew I was back in the labor room listening to Isaiah screaming at the top of his precious little lungs. Praise God, we both made it alive.
He is truly a little firecracker. He's very loud and impatient when it comes to eating and diaper changes, such the opposite of Sydnee. And he's already eating like food it's gonna run away from him! We're truly blessed to have our little angel here, finally. Enjoy the pics and check back often for updates! Have a Happy Turkey Day!
